Introduction

The Directorate of Technical Education is the monitoring and controlling body for the admissions to Diploma and Degree courses in Karnataka. As regards to the admissions to the degree program a separate Cell has been set up by the Govt. of Karnataka to take up this gigantic task All the latest information about admissions to Engineering degree programs are available in the website of Karnataka Examination Authority.

Admissions to Diploma Program

The common admission to 1st year Diploma for Government / Aided Polytechnics and for private polytechnics who have surrendred their seats will be conducted by Department Of Technical Education (DTE) in co-ordination with Karnataka Examination Authority, Bangalore(KEA) and National Informatics Centre(NIC). The admission process usually starts with the issue of the notification for admission by the Directorate in leading news papers of the State. The advertisement generally appears in and around the dates of announcement of Secondary School Leaving Certificate results conducted by the State Govt. It may be some time in the last week of April or First week of May or around that period. The announcement is also made on the website http://dte.kar.nic.in and www.kea.kar.nic.in of the Directorate. The polytechnic websites will also carry the details of admission notification in their respective sites.

Applications

Applications for online admission will be available in all the offices of Government and aided Polytechnics of the State. The online applications may be filled in any polytechnic or Nodal center polytechnics.

Admission Procedure

Admission to diploma courses is based on merit in each category of reservation. Out of the total seats 50% of the seats are reserved for various groups of the society. Remaining 50% of the seats are allotted based on the marks scored in the SSLC for technical Courses. For admission to non technical courses also total marks scored by the candidate in SSLC is taken into consideration. Eiligibilty

The candidate must be a citizen of India
(a) For Technical(Engineering) Courses: should have passed Karnataka S.S.L.C or equivalent examination by securing 35% marks in aggregate;
(b) For Non-technical (Non-Engineering)Courses:
1. Commercial Practice and Apparel Design & Fabrication Technology / Modern office Management Should have passed Karnataka S.S.L.C or Equivalent Examination by securing 35% marks in aggregate.
2. Library Science and Information Management Should have passed Karnataka P.U.C-II or Equivalent examination by securing 35% marks in aggregate.
Also, for both Engineering & Non-Engineering, the candidate should have completed atleast five full academic years of study in Karnataka between 1st Standard and qualifying examination (study of one class for one year will be treated as one academic year).

NOTE: Candidates who have passed the 10th Standard Exam conducted by CBSE/ICSE and other states 10th Standard candidates shall produce Eligibility Certificates obtained from the Secretary, Board of Technical Examinations, Palace Road, Bangalore – 560 001 at the time of document verificatioion & online application submission process.

(c) For Evening Polytechnic: The candidate must be a citizen of India,and
i. Should have passed Karnataka S.S.L.C or Equivalent Examination by securing 35% marks in aggregate.
ii. Should have completed atleast five full academic years of study in Karnataka between 1st Standard and qualifying examination (study of one class for one year will be treated as one academic year).
iii. The candidate should have minimum three years of experience in respective Technical field after passing SSLC as on the 01-07-2016 and a No Objection Certificate (NOC) given by the employer must be produced at the time of admission to part-time diploma course in the prescribed format.

(d) Lateral entry admission to 3rd semester diploma:
Candidates who have passed SSLC or Equivalent Examination with 35% of marks in aggregate and should have passed JTS (3 years course) / ITI (2 Years Course) recognised by Govt. of Karnataka are only eligible for seats reserved under JTS / ITI quota. The merit will be determined based on Total Marks obtained in final year of ITI in respective trades for respective branches. Admission will be considered only for the candidates coming under JTS quota and ITI quota for Diploma First semester courses.

Fees

Fee structure for the diploma courses in Government & Aided polytechnics for the year 2016-17 in the state is mentioned below as per the Government order No. ED 64 TPE 2016, Bangalore,dated: 21/06/2016.
1. Government Polytechnic : Rs 4,130/-
2. Aided Polytechnic : Rs.6,680/-
3. Private Polytechnic : Rs.12,830/- (For karnataka students)
4..Private Polytechnic : Rs.19,830/- (For Non-karnataka students)

A special fee structure follows for the students who will be admitted under Supernumery quota, Backward community and SC/ST candidates.
